In 1883, the island of Krakatoa, between Java and Sumatra, violently exploded. Over 40 000 people were killed. Tidal waves followed which were 120ft high. The explosion was seen from Japan and Australia. The shock was felt in California in the USA! 160 villages were destroyed in total. |
